Global Conflict

10 videos • 316 views • by OER Project The twentieth century has been called an “age of extremes.” From 1914 to 1945, two world wars dominated global attention, resources, and economies. These two catastrophic conflicts were followed almost immediately by a global Cold War, pitting the world’s first two nuclear-armed superpowers against each other in a struggle for the future. Today, 75 years after the end of the Second World War, we’re still grappling with the legacies of a conflict that saw more than 70 million perish, the majority of them civilians. Mass atrocities and total war typified these global conflicts and provoked some in the world to push for international cooperation and human rights, with mixed results. The videos in this playlist examine a century of violent extremes and help us imagine a brighter future.
