The Adventures of Rupert the Apple Snail

In late November 2015, I was fortunate enough to have a remarkable animal become part of my life. By chance, I purchased an apple snail at a local fish shop in the Honolulu area. Never having seen them before at a store, or since, Rupert the apple snail was documented in photographs from November 25, 2015 through the day before his passing, which sadly was Friday July 20, 2018. Rupert was and always will be larger than life in some ways, on a deep universal/spiritual level, but physically, he was a bit larger than the diameter of a quarter when I got him, and almost 3" long when fully grown. It appears that Rupert was a Pomacea Diffusa species apple snail when comparing his shell characteristics to samples of each of the apple snails found in Hawaii, pomacea canaliculata being the other species. This playlist represents all the videos based around his life, in chronological order. While some may exist elsewhere, it looks like it was not until May 2016 that video of Rupert began to be made. In any event, I believe Rupert was 2-3 months old when I got him, and I had him 2 years and 8 months. When he passed away, he was nearly 3 years old. I love Rupert dearly, and believe in my heart he had a fantastic life, receiving excellent care. He is the most innocent creature I ever met, and this movie, made up of the video of his life, is meant as a tribute to all the joy he brought me. It's also to show what wonderful pets apple snails make. They are endearing, lovable, graceful, delicate, gentle and deeply rewarding family members. I love him among the very finest people I've met. Hopefully it will also serve as information about this very special animal. I believe Rupert may be the most videoed, most photographed apple snail in history, and it is a pleasure to share his story with you in this movie documenting his extraordinary life, in close to seven hours of footage, so that Rupert can in some way live forever, as a global ambassador for apple snails and the tremendous joy and love they can bring. God bless you, Rupert.
