Yeah it also helps to fix the problem you may be having. If you're always just in your emotions when dealing with life it's no better than failing in water while drowning.
Calming oneself, identifying the root problem, and creating a plan to rectify the situation alleviates the emotional distress more than just "processing."

Is it though? Or is it just a coping strategy? A way to understand, and give recognition to the feeling - because I didnāt have proper attunement. Iām still feeling the feeling when I hit something that resonates and validates what Iām feeling. Otherwise I question if what Iām feeling is appropriate or if itās a belief that needs some updating and my mind keeps bothering me about it. āIntellectualizingā and understanding my feeling gives me confidence to make action and to mitigate this god awful feeling moving forward. ā¦ Iām still very much feeling the feeling. But now I can articulate my feeling instead of acting out my feeling.
It impossible to be consciously fully aware all the time. We need a layer, a coping mechanism to stay mentally healthy.
Your mind prefers to stay in the abstract world. If you force your mind into awareness of reality for too long, it canāt fantasize, It canāt play and have free fun away from judgement or criticism. It will start to bring the abstract into realityā¦ and thats psychosis. Psychosis is not fun.
The fastest way to induce anxiety in a person. Watch them.
Same rule applies to your mind.
Sometimes itās appropriate when a correction needs to be made. But otherwise, as long as itās not causing other problems, cope how you cope. Work as you work. Live as you live. Itās not wrong. Itās perfectly you

I would go so far as to say that this contributes to numbing for me. I'd like to get some of the positive emotions back, and emotions are sets, so that means the uncomfortable ones, too.
But to be truthful, I want the negative emotions. I block anger, but I don't need to fight it anymore. I'd like to feel what it's like to be angry and know it's valid. I need to do some heavy-duty grieving, and I canāt feel it.
So how to get past my intellectual understanding to a place of feeling?.
