Instead of lowering salt in packaged foods, why not just lower the amount of packaged foods?

It probably also has something to do w/ the fact that Koreans consume less sugar, & ingest more "whole foods" than we do too.

It’s not just the salt. The American diet is full of highly processed “foods” and is full of all sorts of chemicals and vegetable oils.

Salt isn't the main culprit of heart disease here in America its mostly high sugar and processed food diet and portions. Obviously many other influences but these two are the culprit

The fact that he pronounces ‘Korean’ like some sort of exotic animal is hilarious to me as a Korean myself

It's puzzled me how much salt gets demonized, it's actually incredibly important for biological function.

Thought 🤔💭 Kimchi is made up of salted and fermented vegetables, could it be that Americans (including me) need more fermented foods in our diet. It can boost the number of beneficial bacteria, or probiotics, found in your gut. Probiotics have been associated with a variety of health benefits, including improved digestion, better immunity, and even increased weight loss.

While I believe this could be true, there is also a lot of evidence that suggests high salt intake is positively associated with gastric cancer. South Korea has the highest incidence of gastric cancer worldwide, followed by Japan who also has a relatively high salt intake. I'm sure there's other factors at play as well and the likelihood of contracting heart disease in general is much higher than gastric cancer but still food for thought. I wish it were all simple and straightforward! Love your work WIL.

I can't say it's an axiom but... If the U.S.F.D.A. is telling you to do something, do the opposite. In 50 years of trying to use science and research to advise Americans on matters of diet and health they have NEVER been right.

I watched a heart specialist explain this, basically excess sodium can be excreted by the body, but the body can't make up for the lack of it and low sodium is not just unhealthy but seriously damaging.

Also consider that Korean diet probably has higher potassium( like from the veggies in kimchi) to balance out the higher salt intake

I've never heard anyone pronounce Korean as Cory-un until now

This is only half of the story though. At least two pairs of the electrolytes are designed to balance their opposite. Salt/Potassium and Calcium/Magnesium.
