We never know what the circumstances are if debt has been forced on her through spousal gambling or business partners etc better to take this option than become so depressed there seems no way out

I think people may judge her as she took an easy out but she did not. She likely struggled for years and will start with not just no credit but very bad credit and a bankruptcy on her record. It isn't an easy out. But it does allow people to be able to escape crushing impossible debt. Medical reason lead my family into severe struggle when I was a kid. We sold our things amd still lights and water were shut off. Lost everything and most my belongings at just 8 yrs old. But bankruptcy saved us and as a teen we were a bit more stable and now my parents are older they are doing great.
