If you pay special attention, you'll notice that the OR logo produces heat and will keep you much warmer. Few know that a Patagonia logo on a rain shell actually frightens condensation away. Both logos will accomplish substantial weight savings in your wallet.

Bought this jacket last year after seeing your recommendation. Couldn’t be happier. Still going strong!

Big fan of Decathlon. Great products at reasonable prices. 👌

There's this thing called quality. Another is accountability. OR, Patagonia, and others WILL fix your gear when it breaks down (much later than Decathlon, etc). They WILL stand by their products. And they will source materials, site their operations, and pay their fabricators better.

I love decathlon. We just bought a bunch of new camping stuff from them. Quilts, backpack, boots, pants, thermopants, Merino underwear, hiking poles, poncho, rain coat, light weight jacket, headlamp and a lot more. Let's say for the total cost of everything I could have bought just the quilts and the backpack in a distinguished outdoor shop... and the quality is awesome

That jacket has been a well-known sleeper in the community for a few years. Just be sure to get the right size. The fit of this jacket is VERY SLIM - so size up especially if you're planning to layer.

Great wisdom. Keep bringing alternatives to us. My son and I both bought one for a hike this next weekend...

I purchased a Gerry(they used to make really good gear) 650 fill down jacket from Costco for $39 a couple years ago. I’ve worn it a lot around town and it’s been great.

Totally agree with this. Bought a Peter Storm down jacket for about £80 and it's been ideal for 6 years. A few patches of gorilla tape keep it going when it rips and I don't see it dying any time soon!

I got lucky and found it on sale for $59 and bought two of them during Black Friday. I also have the vest and it’s just as great as the jackets.

I thrift all these name brand jackets and sell them at a deal, still half what the jacket advertised here costs…and I still make a profit. Plenty of people don’t pay retail

That’s why I got stuff from Mil tec and comparable brands. Mostly no Names on the stuff, about military grade, sturdy and it’s cheap… Only thing I’m currently considering is a good Carinthia Sleeping system. The Def 4 seems cool.

True. Another tip: Cheap polyester is very nearly as good as the best Polartec. Wicking shirt for base; MAYBE thin grid or fluffy fleece for warmth. Both move moisture better than natural fibers. Alternative for warmth: Synthetic puffy vest. I got one for $11 at Walmart; it's lighter and packs smaller than any fleece mid-layer. Vest is like giant pit zips. Under a shell, it is warm without overheating.
