In therapy I use a combination of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Systems Theory, positive psychology, and a bio-psycho-social approach to treating mental illness and other challenges we all face in life. The ideas from my videos are frequently adapted from multiple sources. Many of them come from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, especially the work of Steven Hayes, Jason Luoma, and Russ Harris. The sections on stress and the mind-body connection derive from the work of Stephen Porges (the Polyvagal theory), Peter Levine (Somatic Experiencing) Francine Shapiro (EMDR), and Bessel Van Der Kolk. I also rely heavily on the work of the Arbinger institute for my overall understanding of our ability to choose our life's direction.
And deeper than all of that, the Gospel of Jesus Christ orients my personal worldview and sense of security, peace, hope, and love www.churchofjesuschrist.org/comeuntochrist/believe

Hallelujah sister! For those of us who suffer during those long dark winter nights...this is where we turn the corner. Spring is coming!

My solution to curing my seasonal affective disorder was to finally leave the north east and move to Southern California. Best decision I’ve ever made for my mental health. I know it’s not possible for everyone to just pick up and move but living somewhere with constant sunshine and warm weather has made me a far happier person. I didn’t realize just how much the gray weather and cold affected my overall physical health as well until I left!

My birthday is the winter solstice, I used to dread my birthday until now after seeing this, so thank you for helping me see if from a happier, nicer and much more positive point of view.❤🙏

I never understood the term, seasonal depression until this year. each year I was always excited and looked forward to all the holidays, this year, not so much. I used to love the cold winter, and it being dark. Not so much anymore. I cant wait for the holidays to be over, the new year to start, and I cant believe I'm going to say this, SUMMER TIME TOO!! Happy winter Solstice

I read the title and thought it will be an anaology how to deal with major distress in life. "The darkest day is the beginning of more light" reminds me of my current grief. My loss was devastating. But with every day I heal a tiny bit more. Happy late winter solstice

Yeah, it adds up Miss Sunshine. Right up to where you’re miserably hot, humidity is 90 + % and you’re lucky if you don’t drop dead from heat stroke. No thank you dear. I’ll stick with blessedly comfortable winter.

It is actually celebrated in the iranian culture as well as zoroastrian religion. It is called "Shab i yalda" which literally means "Longest night" and people make special dishes fpr this day, come together, read peoms and cherish this day. :)

You are the best at what you do. Best I’ve found, anyway. Thank you for expressing a wish for more love and light in a way that does not come across as condescending. Wishing you the best! I will continue to tune in.
