As someone who was prescribed them once in my teens, making the decision to throw them away was more helpful to me than the pills ever were.

One of the largest studies on depression was done with over 125,000 participants. The conclusion that exercise was more effective at treating symptons than the combination of drugs AND counseling

I was put on them as a teenager. I hated the "fake happy" they made me feel (in addition to the suicidal ideations, which I NEVER had before). I just stopped taking them one day (even though I was told to taper off) and I never looked back. One of the best decisions I ever made...

34 years ago I was in transition from being a useless drug addict drunk to a sober citizen I had some adjustment problems. I was very depressed and was prescribed antidepressants which I took for 7 years. For a completely unrelated reason I decided to learn about and explore the world of Fitness and Nutrition. Very soon thereafter I totally abandoned antidepressants. To this day I believe they helped me while I was in transition however if I had gone straight to Fitness and Nutrition I never would have needed them. The things you learn.

I LOVE THIS! I constantly talk to my clients who struggle with depression about this! I WISH more people talked about this. Thank you from a therapist.

Biggest issue with antidepressants… They prescribed to people who aren’t clinically depressed… and are in the emotional state naturally. Many forget it’s a emotion our brains use to motivate us to change. Like a dude who only ever games and is overweight feeling depressed is normal… Cause that’s a depressing lifestyle and his brain wants him to go and do something. And that is most of what is called “depression” these days… a perfectly natural emotion that is your mind screaming this ain’t enough or this ain’t it. It’s ignoring that signal and not trying to understand it that does most harm. But many don’t even know themselves to be able to even translate their own emotion and know why.

After going through severe depression because of a business failure, anti-depressants were one of the keys to regaining mental fitness.

The withdrawal off of them was wild. I had a practice attack for like 3 solid days, My son felt like it was crawling and i kept having full body shivers. That was only at a low dose. I also watched my nephew detox after he was born.

Really depends. Stuff like amitriptyline (tryciclical antidepressant) works wonders for some people with a comorbidity of migraine and depression and/or anxiety disorder. But the thing with ssri`s is, that they usually don´t solve the underlying life or biochemical issues. It is complicated. I also think just juicing people up on ssri´s or snris is sort of bollocks in the long run. But if it helps it is a blessing. People literally just have to try things out responsibly and carefully. Lifestyle changes included. Every case ist different, but all the science is based on statistical generalizations.

I'm not depressed. I'm poor. I work and thats all I do, but the government steals half my work and working more, just makes it worse. There's no drug or exercise that will cure a corrupt society. 🤷‍♂️✌

I highly recommend that those suffering from depression look into the details of Stoic philosophy. This philosophy freely admits that life is very hard more often than full of pleasure, but that by turning inwards, you can develop the ability to throw away what all the people are trying to do to you (in a bad way). If you think that we are in a world with just as many bad people as good people (lots of good people, also), well, you are right. Unless you have a truly dangerous level of depression, you can find some relief on your own. My dad died about a month and a half ago. I was a mess. However, May 1st, I recognized that it was time to "get back towards normal" and I did so. So you can pop some pills or look towards Stoicism for your own (difficult work involved) relief. I studied Chemistry and Biochemistry, so I am not biased against chemicals used for health. Good Luck!

1. Don't take drugs 2. or others hormone enchancers, manipulaters 3. less friends, but good ones 4. don't overwork yourself. It's easier to prevent depression, than fight with.

Maybe they are ineffective for depression, but it's the only reliable treatment for premature ejaculation and that's important for me.

It is pretty gut wrenchcing when you're prescribed something to help deal with your diagnosed issues, and for 2-3 week's you feel pretty normal. Then, out of nowhere, it stops. Hope is an enormous antidepressant. But like so many other things in life, hope fades and reality set's back in. I am brOKen
