1. A new category that includes those with intellectual disabilities, and they'll be eligible for both half and full world champs.
2. New open division for those who don't want a gender or age category, but it will exclude qualification to the world champs.
No approval is necessary to get into it.
3. Ironman will align with World Tri Competition rules on transgender policies, which basically say male to female athletes need to have testosorone levels below a certain amount for 2 years or more.
4. Shoes like Gustav used to win Kona will not be allowed. The sole has to be thinner than 40mm and can only have one rigid plate. Also the shoe has to have been on the open retail market for at least 4 months.
These new rules will be effective March 1, 2023 for all events globally.
