The way they always do that slow look upward in shock.....god you nailed it. A slow dramatic zoom in would've also worked, did wonders for Star Trek.

Rock music, video games, D&D, etc. Old people think everything cool is related to the Devil. I had an old lady in a Wal-Mart come up to me when I was looking at trading cards once and tell me her grandson wanted some Yu-Gi-Oh cards and asked me if they were safe or if they had anything to do with the Devil.
I think the criteria is that if it looks like people are having fun doing it instead of wallowing in Christian guilt, then it must be a devil thing.

I lived through the 80s & 90s. Loved sitcoms & D&D. Other than the newscasts becauses idiots looked for ninja turtles.. I do not recall anyone considering dns "bad". "Goofy" & "immature", yes.

My patents would have been the type to have set the table up so my friends could play DnD if I played it. My mom might have even joined. I just didnt know or care about it till I was older.

Years ago I casually mentioned to my father I had a DnD game coming up. He did that, quiet worried face, then asked if that was the one that summons devils. I told him that if it was that easy to summon demons, then the government would have air dropped players handbooks and dice into war zones years ago.
