As a small business owner I can tell you rewards cards hurt the small businesses. Credit card companies charge a commission on the total sale cost. Normal credit cards are around 2% but if it’s a rewards card the small businesses fee can go up to 6.5%. It’s not your credit card company paying for the rewards but your small business owners

My local deli charges lower prices if you pay in cash vs credit cards so the interchange fees do add up and they do affect prices.

I love Kara & Nate, and appreciate all the points hacking info they provide. However, the reality is that the fees paid by everyone only turn into beneficial points for those credit card users who have rewards cards, increasing income disparity. Moreover, fees affect small businesses more, because big retailers get volume discounts on the fees. It’s complicated.

This video showed me a lot more about how Nate thinks than the rest of his videos combined.

But won't reducing interchange fees make accepting credit cards more affordable for small businesses? Reducing these points systems, and helping out the mom and pop retailers (and consumers, by extension) seems like a small price to pay since only an elite few are able to maximize rewards as much as Kara and Nate anyways.

Typical greed. Interchange fees indiscriminately hurt small businesses in America. Major retailers pay much lower negotiated fees. Lower interchange fees benefit everyone. This is coming from someone who does benefit a lot from credit card rewards.

I know multiple family’s who struggle getting a meal on the table throughout the week. Your credit card points to get first class tickets for a beach vacation is the least of the world’s worries.

Imagine shilling for multibillion dollar businesses like Chase and Visa

So you want unnecessary banking fees to fund your points system? Lower cost of business is always a win for the consumer. Points can go away completely if it means lower fees to do business…

The average American household is in almost $8,000 of credit card debt. People continue to use their cards to earn rewards and points thinking that they are taking advantage of credit when it is in fact the opposite. Get rid of points and perks for the sake of the American middle class!

This has already happened in Australia, and the minor impact on points earn is massively offset by the positive impact on small business. The fewer Americans in lounges globally shouting on their phone about their experience on the hop on hop off bus, the better

Because you have worked “the system”…you want the “rewards”…and good for you! But in reality, more people go deeper and deeper into debt trying to beat that system! However…I do believe government should keep its nose out of private business and let societal behavior rule the roost! The more government involvement, the more control…OVER INDIVIDUALS!!!

On the wrong side to fund your luxury travel. Just STOP! This is a good bill for normal consumers.

No, the fees need to go away. If credit cards will be the norm for transaction, we shouldn't be charged to pay for things. I deal with 74 merchants everyday and we pay almost a million in just fees every year.

My brother owns a dog daycare in Chicago and he would kill me first supporting the opposition of this bill. We both have Chase Sapphire Preferred cards and love rewards, but those 3% fees hurt the small business owner but good.

Sorry but I'm not going to do that. This bill sounds like a good idea. Actually a lot of these point systems are very predatory and get people in debt. Honestly, this would be a good idea. I think we should go for it so I'm sorry I'm not going to be calling my senator. I want this bill to pass

So basically it’s going to cost you more to fund your already luxury lifestyle. People who live a normal lifestyle will benefit, that makes much more sense

classic america… find something that actually benefits people and lobby to change it & make it obsolete. thanks for looking out for the little guy, senator. he’s most likely getting HIS pockets lined by the same corps pushing for the bill.

Girl you're crazy if you think your interests matter more than small businesses. Good on Durbin for this bill!
