The waiting space between living crippled and having a withered hand and God's asking them to reach out is the hard part. They had to fully know what it was to be crippled to know the magnitude of the miracle. If they had just fallen or broken their finger the day before, they wouldn't have had much of a reason to have the need to even reach for God's hand.
