Long ago, we were all taught to hold it like a pen. I still do because I don’t need to use my entire arm and shoulder like is necessary when holding like a knife.

Like a pen. 😅 I have always held my hook that way, I think that's how my grandma held hers and taught me to do the same. I was 9 yrs old when I was taught to crochet. That's 44 yrs of holding my hook like a pen. 😅

Pen hold, though sometimes I use the knife hold to give my hand a break.

Like a pen, but when my hand gets tired, I switch to holding it like a knife, so that some of my muscles rest a little. It's less comfortable and slower for me, but sometimes I want to keep crocheting, so it's an option

I try holding my yarn over my finger like that but can't get it, holding the needle like a knife is more comfortable, crocheting is a special gift I love crocheting. 😊

I've crocheted for 50 years- I hold my hook like a knife. And when I was but a teenager a kind stranger showed me how to hold my yarn like you do. I so wish I knew who she was- she changed my crochet life!
