A friend of mine's father passed away. He and his wife had a prenup. He had an "investment" apartment that he didn't have anyone to rent. The prenup protected her from a significant amount of debt. Prenups aren't only for divorces.

You also shouldn't enter a contract with someone who is rewarded for breaking it.

People can deceive. A prenuptial guards against that. If they are legit, the prenup is irrelevant. Iā€™ve seen women get devastated a man they met and married at church (sister-in-laws mom). She now lives in a trailer. She has nothing. He has everything. He convinced her to sell her house, put all that money into his house then divorce her. Rinse and repeat. After the second time, the church finally wised up. This dude was so charming and convincing. He had the whole church fooled. go ahead and prenup.

Iā€™m sorry but this was an extremely ignorant statement. Everything is on a case by case basis. People are getting married much later in life these days and things are not that simple. Are there kids involved? Has the husband or wife already been burned without a prenup? I have not either of those btw, but in my opinion, everything should be shared until a divorce occurs. What was gained during the marriage should be split in the case of divorce, but the original finances that were in place prior to the marriage should then be returned to the pre-marriage owners. Someone who has intentions of divorcing the other shortly after the marriage would never sign the prenup and this would prevent the horrible situation altogether. Prenups actually prevent divorces, and like you said, marriage is meant for life.

Nowhere in the Bible does it say to not get prenups. Prenups are a wonderful form of legal protection for both individuals. People against them are immediately suspect.

People change. A prenup insures that a promise made today and broken ten years hence, doesn't cause financial devastation.

When you marry the state has its own prenup

Unfortunately, these ā€œsituationsā€ are not that uncommon nowadays. But the marriage vows are supposed to be a prenup in themselves. Donā€™t cheat, and stay loyal for life. If you canā€™t handle that, donā€™t get married.

I agree. If youre in a high financial position and you are worried about the woman you are marrying(or vise versa), you should not be getting married to them.

What do you think about prenups when two older couples are marrying, and they want to protect their childrenā€™s future assets from their spouses children. I can get behind that.

When my late husband passed away, I had to pay estate duties on things that belonged to me because there was no prenuptial agreement. It can also protect assets if one person has a business that fails. It's not just about the possibility of divorce.

I'd argue that this is probably best left as a freedom in Christ. A prenup should be used as a form of consequence for divorcing one's spouse outside of sexual immorality. If anything there is probably more support for it as tool to help maintain the longevity and fidelity in a marriage.

Prenups are a must when No Fault Divorce exists. Otherwise the marriage rate will continue to drop. I just watched my pastorā€™s wife divorce him and take the kids because she doesnā€™t think he is responsible enough. It takes 2 to tango and he shares some of the blame but IMHO it is about 30%. But the court always gives the mother the lions share of the time with kids and money. DO MORE ABOUT NO FAULT DIVORCE AND THE UNDERGROUND TENDER YEARS DOCTRINE!

I strongly disagree... It forces both people to layout expectations and responsibilities to each other. Something the Christian church has failed to do. If anything the western Christian church has watered down what the Bible demands from the husband and especially the wives.

It's a legal document that help protect both parties. It forces couples to think through tough situations. It's like saying Christians shouldn't have a will. If you don't have a will, you make things tougher for people when you Die. There is nothing wrong with a Legal document that forces people to think through tough situations.

A prenump isn't just got divorce it talks about death too

Should not! My Christian wife of 24 years divorced me for no good reason. I didnā€™t give her the lifestyle she wanted. I didnā€™t cheat, beat her, spend money. She was a missionary to the Congo. She memorized 7 books of the New Testament. Yet she left anyway. I shouldnā€™t have to but I wish I did.

30% of men are raising children that arenā€™t theirs. Iā€™m a Christian man, how do I go into a marriage when Iā€™ve seen so many of my friends and myself fall victim to treacherous women. This goes for both sexes. How can I lead a household to Christ in todays climate.

Christians should not get insurance because they should not be focusing on death or horrific accidents instead they should be focusing on living life to the fullest. You see how ridiculous that sounds? No one PLANS to get into a car accident any more than anyone PLANS to get a divorce. Disasters happen, and people ought to be prepared for it. Hence the prenup.

As a mother of sons I would consider a prenuptial because in Texas a woman can divorce your son and claim half my sons inheritance from us parents. Also, I have seen some horrible things happen with women transing the kids. It is scary for them these days.
