When I was raising my nearly 31 year old daughter, I refused to have a scale because I didn't want her to obsess over what the numbers were...she was an incredibly fit gymnast, muscle weighs more than fat and I could just imagine how that scale could interfere with her health. She is married now, has 2 babies, and is still beautifully healthy.

As a parent, it makes me cry, honestly. If they say these awful things to/about strangers, imagine the hateful things they say to themselves.

I’ve always had a pooch belly and as an athletic teenager growing up in the 90s I still had a pooch belly. But because my family had a subscription to shape magazine and every single woman on the cover had a completely flat stomach I thought I was fat and fantasized about slicing it off. No one ever told me it was normal. Things are worse now with social media. Makes me worry about the kids growing up these days.

My God, I saw a reel that said something like "does anyone else wish that Taylor Swift had an ED again? No offence but that stomach is NOT it". I almost bursted out in tears. I wouldn't wish an ED on my worst enemy and someone literally WANTS for Taylor to be sick again, where she couldn't perform a show without fainting and could've DIED?!?! Twisted, insane behavior.

Well said! I think most people don’t realize this, but professional singers are literally taught to "breathe into your belly" - expanding the lower belly when you take a big breath as opposed to expanding the ribcage/top of your chest. This technique is supposed to help you create a more powerful sound, help you hold notes for a longer period of time, etc. You can be the thinnest person on earth, but if you ever want to be a great singer you will have to risk looking like you have a full belly at some point. I feel so sad for anyone who see it as an imperfection. All I see is a gorgeous woman and a dedicated artist. She sings about having guitar string scars on her hand - do those make her any less beautiful? I think they make her more perfect. They are part of her journey.

Love this video! The “search bar” part flashes by so quickly I had to rewind a few times and try to pause at the right moment. Consider leaving it up on the screen longer or reading what it says! Otherwise I wouldn’t have understood the context.

It’s normal for women to have your lower stomach have that shape to it that can stick out from a side view , but regardless even if it does look significantly bigger there is no need to comment . Periods , ovarian cysts , endometriosis etc can all cause the area to look swollen . You never know what someone is dealing with!

Oh, yeah, I read this in a biology book once: women have these funny things called “internal organs” that take up space in their bodies. Wild, huh? 😅

I can’t believe I’m 60 years old and still needed to hear this. Having been thin with a varying sized belly my whole life, I never thought it would still be a thing at 60.

It's particularly insane that a very slim woman like you or Taylor swift will get these comments because you look the tiniest bit less slim for a moment. Like holy crap dude I'm almost glad I'm chubby cause no one notices if I'm bloated or not😂

I call it an abundance pouch because it means I can afford food. And I just had a baby so now it’s my FUPA loud and proud !

Swiftie since 2010 here. Taylor’s always had that tiny tummy bump, even when she was bone thin during her early years. It’s just her body. It’s not some kind of flaw she needs to work on. It’s definitely not a baby lol. I’ve said this the entire time, I’d kill to look like Taylor at any stage of her career, tiny tummy bump and all. When I was younger, I did wonder what the bump was, but only because I’ve been overweight since I was little and I’ve never experienced a thin body, even now into my 20s. I’ve actually learned a lot from TikTok about how different bodies look, as in, even the thinnest girls usually have a little tummy bump. I just want to be a healthy weight, whether my stomach is ever flat or not. Y’all need to come up with real problems to worry about. Taylor is so healthy right now. She’s insanely fit, and from what we can see peering through a window, she’s eating well and taking care of herself. I have no worries for her.

Thank you for saying what needed to be said bluntly- if you are comparing yourself and criticizing others, get off tik tok and experience real live people.

You are truly fabulous!!👏🏼 As a woman that has successfully worked through a 20 year battle with an ED, with a now non chatty brain of calorie counting and a strong healthy body. I applaud you. Your truth is done with the correct amount of FU to these ridiculous unrealistic standards. I am grateful for your honesty, amazingly helpful content and those ever so important trigger warnings. I wish your voice carried to so many more, I wish you all the happiness and all the best in your future endeavour

As a millennial the magazine and web scene of 20/10 years ago where as toxic if not worse, but 1000% agree with everything you said, Abbey!

This is so true! Women weren’t designed to have flat stomachs! ❤ Let’s be kind to each other and not comment on others bodies.

The ideal body image is still prevalent in society. It is exhausting. Always reminds me of Jean Kilbourne's "Killing Us Softly" research and videos. Thank you for addressing this.

That "tummy" is her uterus. Uteruses stick out. A flat tummy is a myth.

This generation is no different than 10-20 years ago when you’d stand at the supermarket in the checkout line and look at magazines with headlines featuring ‘lose 20lbs in 7 days with a lemon detox diet’, or ‘Britney spears pregnant?’ because she’s bloated like a normal woman. People are just obsessed with getting unlimited gossip from their phones that we want to act like this is a new issue.
