Anyone can buy the car brand that they want at their price point. It always takes time for any vehicle or product to iron out all their issues for example first generation Range Rover Evoque or the Tesla generation 1 compared to now.
You should watch the annual report on reliability of vehicles in your country to help you figure out the best brands / model.

Chinese cars are not bad, they are horrible. They fall apart sooner than a Hyundai from the 90s. We have a handful of those in Brazil and they are not reliable at all. If you see a Chinese car, runaway from it, unless you hate money and a reliable transportation.
I was forgetting: they never have spare parts in their dealerships. If you need parts, you better have Uber coupons, and for such unreliable engineering, you’ll need parts!! BYD will take 6 months to deliver a tail light. Trust me, you don’t want a Chinese car!
BYD? They are horrible! There’s no quality control at all, it’s bizarre how parts fall apart.

Actually having common parts spread across multiple manufacturers increases quality, longterm maintainability and lowers cost for better parts. Having each company trying to uniquely out cheap each other and themselves leads to higher prices and setvice/quality nightmares!
