I'm old, so I was in AOL chat rooms as a middle aged person- had 2 or 3 regular rooms- a political room and a Christian room. I miss it so much! We had a group of middle aged "regulars" and we didn't get involved in flirting- we'd shut that down if anyone started it. We provided support for one another, shared our lives, talked about our kids- I got the encouragement to go back for my Master's degree when my kids left home. I wish they'd bring them back!

Yup. Thankfully I never got into the cybersex stuff, but I definitely had online "girlfriends" who would mysteriously get bored of being with me after a few days.

2 things here: 1. The two girlfriends I had at that age were the dirtiest girls I have ever met. 2. Most of those people you met on line probably were guys. Which just shows you gender has always been more fluid than we knew.

Me and my friend used to go onto KKK chatrooms on yahoo with the voice feature, and just blast Tupac into the microphone. It was like hitting a hornets nest with a broom... so much fun! lol
