Once, I only had lavenders to feed the bees. Now I grow sunflowers here to help them more. Even I loved the aroma from the flower itself.

We're in zone 5 Chicago area and I've noticed honeybees love allium (the first flower). From March-November, I try to have something blooming that honeybees like. I've noticed they REALLY appreciated blue, purple & pink spiderwort, blue & pink sage, purple echinacea, all monarda (bee balm), Montana Centura (mountain bluet), stonecrop/sedum, calamint, catmint, Joe Pye, swamp milkweed, and fall asters. These are all easy-to- grow, sun-loving perennials in zone 5&6. And they are also fairly easy to divide and share with friends who also want to help bees.
