Locking out is a matter of preference.
I personally never do it because it makes my joints feel funky.
Also, as someone who's worked manual labor most of his life, I've noticed that locking out joints especially in heavy motions, will inevitably ruin your joints. But if you're doing a once a week workout, it'll probably be just fine.

I agree with about 90% of what you say. Science or not, the vast majority of knee injuries that I've seen come from violent lockouts. I thought we were supposed to keep constant tension on the muscle anyway? If I'm tired, I want to lock out. So not only am I more likely to hurt myself, but I'm also doing the thing that's easier because I'm tired. That doesn't sound efficient or safe.
Same thing with bench press (not so much the injury risk on lockout). But when I'm tired I want to lock my elbows out. You don't want to keep constant tension or rest the bar on your chest if you're tired on bench. Why? Because the lockout is easier. Heck, the same us true with body weight push ups, dips, pull ups, etc.

You gotta train without music once in a while to let the voices know you still care about them
