Iโve always heard the lines at ground level (tying down the corners of tent and fly) called tie-outs, and thatโs what I call them. I think guy lines are specifically the longer lines that attach above ground level, along an edge or even at the middle of a panel. Trekking pole tents usually even have โapexโ guylines to tension the main ridge of the tent. But Iโm not sure the ground-level cords (or straps) are actually guylines.

A side comment in that having them as tight as possible (without ripping the tent, of course) is way better than having any kind of slack in the line, especially in a strong wind. More slack exponentially increases the force with which the wind rips at your tent and those lines, thereby significantly increasing the chance of a tear.

I always called them guide lines before i knew they were actually called guy lines.
