These women’s health multivitamins are like $7 at Walmart, but they contain an anti-anxiety ingredient that I was surprised to see on the list- Inositol-
Inositol is also known as vitamin B8 and has been shown in some studies to be somewhat effective at treating depression, anxiety, panic disorder and OCD.
Inositol is naturally occurring in food, and in the US the average diet includes about 1 gram a day, but studies testing supplementing with 12-18 grams have shown some pretty impressive results with relatively few side effects. It is considered safe and somewhat effective though more research is needed.
So even though inositol is included in these vitamins, it would need to be about 6,000 times stronger to be effective.
Inositol is one supplement for anxiety that has been show to be effective.

In therapy I use a combination of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Systems Theory, positive psychology, and a bio-psycho-social approach to treating mental illness and other challenges we all face in life. The ideas from my videos are frequently adapted from multiple sources. Many of them come from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, especially the work of Steven Hayes, Jason Luoma, and Russ Harris. The sections on stress and the mind-body connection derive from the work of Stephen Porges (the Polyvagal theory), Peter Levine (Somatic Experiencing) Francine Shapiro (EMDR), and Bessel Van Der Kolk. I also rely heavily on the work of the Arbinger institute for my overall understanding of our ability to choose our life's direction.
And deeper than all of that, the Gospel of Jesus Christ orients my personal worldview and sense of security, peace, hope, and love www.churchofjesuschrist.org/comeuntochrist/believe

I'm a biochemist, and would just remind people to be careful of their supplements. Not all chemical forms of inositol are benign (e.g. myo- versus chiro-inositols; watch your stereoisomers), not all sources of inositol are clean (e.g. unregulated supplements versus nuts and grains) and not all inositol is bioavailable (e.g. myo-inositol versus phospho-inositols or phytates). Your body can make inositol and all of its derivatives just fine using only glucose as the starting point, and does so because it's a critical second messenger. Inositol upplements may help with some things, but just be cautious about what you're taking.

Hi there! Just wanted to reach out to everyone here to say you should get your thyroid checked if you're having extra anxiety issues (there's other symptoms too). I was diagnosed with GAD with panic attacks yeeeeears ago, and it was controlled fine with medicine. Fast forward to three years ago, and stuff starts hitting the fan. I kept getting crazy anxiety episodes that could last weeks to months. Just last Monday, my results came back (note I had been dealing with other more physical symptoms too at this point) and BOOM yup....I have Hashimoto's Thyroiditis. Which is linked to depression and anxiety. Get it checked friends. It could help and also save your health in general. Ok Byyyye.

Be careful taking supplements that have a higher percentage of this if you are already on medication! I had no idea what this ingredient was (irresponsible I know, but it was mixed in a natural supplement I was taking for immunity support) until I became sick from it as I am already taking a fairly strong prescribed SSRI for OCD and ended up developing serotonin syndrome! Always cross reference any supplement with your doctor even if it seems harmless and unrelated lol

I actually take myo-inositol for OCD. It works for me. My therapist recommended it to me since I didn't want to take a medication and my OCD was still at high levels. I take 18grams (about 6 teaspoons depending on grams per 1/4 tsp) throughout the day. I've seen a big improvement! It might take a while (a month?) to start working for you if you take it. Also, TAKE IT REGULARLY if you take it. Don't miss doses if you can help it. Don't skip days if you can help it. Otherwise, it may lose its effectivity and you'll have to start over somewhat with your progress. Check with your doctor before taking it. (Also, if you end up taking it, I suggest starting with only 1 tsp a day and moving up in your doses because it can cause gastrointestinal upset if taken too much before your system is used to it.) You can find myo-inositol online. But again, check with your doctor!

I take my grocery stores version of the GNC mega multivitamin. It has 20 mcg of this vitamin. I'm pretty sure my multi vitamin is higher than I need, but my iron is actually good when I've donated blood and it has high Vit C and Zinc, so I'm sticking with it. It has high B vitamins too. I do not eat a very balanced diet, but I'm working on it.

This was interesting. Along with our exercise and diet these types of things can help for sure. I don't take gummies but making sure we are good in vitamin numbers is a factor! I wonder if you've ever tried ashwagandha? I'm trying it in a tincture form and noticed it's helped me concentrate a bit better. Wondering your thoughts on it. I've made an appointment with a doctor next week to talk about it too and if I need to be on anti-anxiety. In therapy due to you too with BetterHelp. :)
