I dont want to hear about rice gasses while billionaires have private jets

rice may account for 10% of co2 globally but just 10 multinational corporations account for 70% of co2 emissions globally. i think maybe rice is not the big issue here

Of all of the greenhouse gases, I feel rice is the least of priorities to focus on, especially how it feeds so many poor and rich countries

There are varieties of rice called upland rice that are bred to grow without flooding. However, flooding is not a strict requirement, as its only purpose is weed suppression. Rice is already a heavy feeder, and will outcompete the vast majority of weeds. If you're growing on a smaller scale, weeds can be controlled by mulching or intercropping.

10% is huge, whoa. But considering the majority of the world relies on rice as a staple crop, that makes sense!

Can we just please tackle the biggest culprits of methane gas, like oil and gas systems and landfills instead of primary food sources?? I get it, we’re in a crisis and we should do everything to reduce overall carbon output and greenhouse gas emissions but I think our focus should be on the pollution that results from industrial production not food production.

Over 50 percent of the world population depends on rice for about 80 percent of its food requirements. So that’s equivalent to 40% of global population eating rice as it’s only source of food. 10% methane global emissions is insignificant relative to the scale and importance of rice

Rice feed more people than other carbohydrate crops. Flooding rice paddy fields, besides a weed deterrent, also reduces pest and hence pesticides.

They will literally tell you to stop growing food instead of. you know. doing anything themselves

Here's a great idea: why not shut down all your industrial and chemical plants and leave my rice alone!

rice is a non-negotiable food source for billions of people on earth. Pick a different issue.

There’s a gas problem in our house with beans too. Or that’s what my wife has told me.

i feel like we should focus on getting rid of fossil fuels before we start going after rice

I dont care. Rice is one of the most critical foods for humans. If you can mitigate it then sure. But rice is too important to lose

Yes, we should worry about staple foods in third world countries, definitely not mega-yachts or private jets or anything like that 🙄

Since a lot of people seem confused, here is what the video did and didn't say. It did say: -rice emits a lot of methane -we should try to make kinds of rice that make less methane It didn't say: -we should stop growing rice -methane emissions coming from rice are the only issue -methane emissions coming from rice are the primary issue Hope that helps
