The important thing is to get useable folate in your diet. 60% of people have MTHFR gene variants C677T and A1298C which means they can not turn inactive folic acid into methylfolate that is bioactive in the body. And if you take folic acid since the body can not use it, then the folic acid blocks the folate receptors. So make sure that if you take a multivitamin, that it does not contain folic acid since you are highly likely not to be able to convert that folic acid into the methylfolate your body needs to function.
