I got to raise a 10 year old daughter and 13 year old son by myself which was great!!! Both of them still live with me as they finish college and get their feet on the ground.
Backtracking, when my ex left us I went through a period of pretty bad depression until my 13 year old son said to me, "dad, you're so sad all the time and no one is yelling at us anymore."

My little brother's dumped him when he went back to school.... she didn't want to be the one working while he was "just reading books". It almost broke his heart and he failed his first year. He tried again and after 13 months of loneliness, he met a cute 21y old girl with a huge smile, working in an animal shelter. They started dating, she invited him to stay in her tiny appartement and told him that she will work more so he can focus only on his studies.
She is now a stay at home WIFE with 2 children, helping in the shelter that she loves, my brother is an engineer and they are married...
