If youā€™re going out and not sleeping at least almost as well as you do on a bed, you arenā€™t doing it right. I never sleep as well anywhere as I do in my bed (even a 4 star hotel), but I do on one occasion - my Amok Draumr. :) After trying out things the way other people did it, I was astounded by the bad nights sleep - and all comforts given up just for a few extra miles during daytime. I quit some trendy lightweight backpacking and switched to slower passed hiking so I could carry more weight. Iā€™m not a thru hiker, so I donā€™t care that my sleep system isnā€™t the lightest- I go for comfort and robust things now. Amok Draumr sleeps like a cloud. My Trangia will outlast me, my sleeping bag can be re-filled if it loses loft, and I now carry almost a full medkit because I canā€™t have someone else be in the verge of death again because I didnā€™t have a tourniquet and proper shears.

Yeah, I switched to hammock camping and sleep like a baby. I can get thru a miserable hike knowing it ends with my hammock. ā¤

I remember a "great" sleep in the woods with a small pine cone in my side. Yes, I checked the tent area well. Though I had forgotten about the pinecone I put in my pocket.

I always sleep better in my tent than in my bed at home. I love my sleeping gear. But then, I've had 47 years to fine tune my backpacking. Best tip was to pick very level sites and remove all sticks and little rocks and acorns before setting up.

First night is always the worst. Second is better and by third, it's just fine. ā¤

I somehow lucked out and got the best combo. Klymit wide mattress, two pillows, one down blow up and one thermarest XL memory foam, a flannel liner and a quilt. Best sleep ever

Dude love your content. I take my boy camping all the time. We get to spend real time together instead of phones. Just wish I could afford more stuff for me and him.
