I'll be honest, I mostly watched this because I heard "tuberculosis".

The absolute power-move it would of been to have John for this video. I know he's not a normal Scishow host but he is certainly an expert on the subject.

Going on 50 years ago, my 2 year old daughter had a rare mycobacterial infection (large growths on her neck, under her jaw) from the tuberculosis family, and it took a year for the doctors to finally come up with a correct diagnosis. It was called scrafula, and she had to take a refrigerated liquid medicine 3x a day WITHOUT FAIL FOR A YEAR! And a screw-up would have meant starting the year all over again! To top it off, we'd just moved to Texas, where the heat was like a blast furnace, making travel and fun activities nearly impossible. I'm glad to see that medical science has improved the treatments to make recovery therapies easier for families.

We love all SciShow's science communicators, but maybe John could be the SciShow correspondent just for the science of TB (and fourth tier football)

From a grueling 6 months to a short 4 months..... when I heard a shorter time I was thinking 7 to 10 days, not 4 months.

3500 per day is 2.43 per minute. That means that while you were watching this video on average 1.7 people would've died of Tuberculosis

My whole digestive system flips me the bird for a 1 or 2 week course of antibiotics. I can't imagine how angry it would be after 6 months 😬

There was TB (possible TB) section where I worked, when working with refugees. They just had everyone in together, I asked about keeping the strains separate and the medics looked at me like I was an alien. The company I worked for stated that should I develop TB, there was a clinic in Perth and that treatment would mean a couple of weeks off work. Idiots.

Now price on the individual's behalf is the hurdle. For the un/under insured in the US, and poorer countries where pharma companies don't want to do business, good luck.
