"onboarding buddy" "one on one meetings" PAY ME MONEY. if you want me to work harder, you need to pay me more money. That being said, I will never go above and beyond for my employer. Going above and beyond does not have price tag because to me, it is an act of care and acts of care are for humans. My employer is a company, not a human. I might go above and beyond for a customer or a coworker, or even a good boss, but never for a company.

If work is just a professional exchange, no passion no community no mercy no innovation, then yeah why would I do anything more than my job? Thats the point of having a single defined job. They absolutely can and will replace any one at any time. So there's nothing to trust and nothing to invest in emotionally. Not that I ever would in a job. The only time they treat you like a human is when they're legally required to. So why would I treat my work like a person? Its a money deal. To companies, its the same as any other deal with a contract. And they'll push it like a toxic relative if they can, and younger folk have been there done that. Each job is the equivalent work of like THREE people now, no way I'm letting you shame me into more to survive and ruining my body. Its a deal, a cog, not a nest.

I personally donât want to feel obligated to spending time with my coworkers outside of work at something like a happy hour. I donât work in an office though so I guess maybe itâs different but Iâve never had that sense of teamwork and closeness where I wanted to really be friends with any of the people I work with.
