As a DoorDash and Uber Eats delivery driver I can confirm that these are facts. So often you'll pick up from a place like Denny's or Red Robin under a different restaurants name like Mr Beast Burger or Danny Trejo's tacos. Whatever ghost kitchen they're posing as. We also have a location just called "DoorDash kitchen" and out of that storefront come 15 different "restaurant" orders. This is where our Chick-fil-A, Wingstop and a bunch of others come out of. These places have contracted with the restaurants their ghosting and have the right ingredients, wrappers, and baggage so it should taste and look like exactly like if it were to come out of those restaurants. Sending love from Los Angeles đ

When ghost kitchens first started popping en masse up it made a bit of sense as restaurants had overhead and weren't able to hit the demand during the pandemic. They needed to rent out their space (and/or staff) to keep people working and stay afloat.
Now, I fear for the restaurants that still operate as a ghost kitchen because that means they're not a draw for their own food which makes me decidedly untrustful of anything they might put out. This video reinforces that fear.

This is very interesting because where I like a ghost kitchen is just⌠someone who is using a commercial kitchen in their off hours. We had so many rad places during the pandemic open they were just bakers or cooks using local restaurantâa kitchens (since they werenât doing in-house service) to make awesome new menus without having to upfront for a whole new retail space (which would of course have led to near immediate closure). We got cool businesses and it helped keep the restaurants we had afloat. They definitely werenât Applebees under a different name đ

Yeah, I'm hyper aware of all restaurants in my town so before I knew what ghost kitchens were, I'd see a "new" restaurant and immediately google it to see where it was. I'd be like "wait, that's Applebee's?" I also don't understand how they can operate legally.
There's a local service that's basically ubereats except it's been around since the 90s, and I usually order through it. It doesn't allow ghost kitchens to be listed at all.
