Exactly. Under the right conditions. Natural forest fires help. That’s why pre burns and clearing out ground fuels are so important. It’s the same for rural communities that have ground fuels. U burn that off. Forests need that too. Mother Nature knows what she’s doing. It’s us that need to be educated. (Not talking about extreme condition wildfires out of control that threaten life/property).

Growing up in Australia we used to have a controlled back burn every two years. It burned up all the excess fuel so that in summer if fires started they had hardly any fuel.
With the whole greenies movement they stopped these burn offs saying they weren’t eco friendly due to pollution and danger to animals etc etc. This meant when summer came the fires had so much fuel they destroyed a ridiculous amount of land, killing animals and people, destroying habitats and homes.
Small winter fires prevent huge summer fires. The aborigines did this practice going back as far as you can imagine and managed to control their environment.

I read this years ago. There use to be a program of burning 5% of all forest every year. After 20 years, every forest would have had a fire to remove all the underbrush and dead wood. The strong healthy trees will survive such a fire because they are not as hot as ones that occur less often with a buildup of rotted leaves and wood

Unfortunately what happens after a forest fire is that rapidly growing brush moves into the cleared land, preventing trees from taking root and getting sunlight as resources are taken by the greedier plants and block sunlight to saplings. It requires quick intervention to plant new trees before the brush moves in.
So no, letting forest fires just spread, doesnt necessarily increase living trees.
