The AK-47 is a gas power’d Assault rifle that uses a 7.62x39mm cartridge that, in the firearms industry, packs quite a punch. its place of origin is the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR) which is in modern day Russia. It was engineered by Mihail Kalashnikov. The AK-47 was first an idea by Kalashnikov to make a better infantry weapon for the red army since he loved making guns and saw that the newest PPSH-42's were not reliable nor accurate at all. Thus he started the making of the rifle in 1945 and by 1947 it won the tournament for the best assault rifle in Moscow and so by 1949 it became the standard issue Assault Rifle of the USSR and the eastern block. It's full name is "Avtomat Kalashnikova 1947", meaning "Kalashinkov's automatic rifle 1947" but they of course had to shorten it and then we got AK-47. It has been exported to a wide number of countries, which some used to modify it, such as Yugoslavia which manufactured the M-70 as a license produced version of the AK-47 (they loved making license produced versions of Soviet Weaponry). There are around 100M rifles of the Kalashnikov family and 75M of those are AK-47’s. But, the AK-47, as reliable as it is, has some major draw backs, the recoil is well known to be very hard to control, as well as being known to decrease it’s power from longer ranges. The base of the AK-47 is getting expanded and improved to this day. The Russian army is currently phasing it out with the AK-12 which is a jack of all trades type of rifle. The AK base design is in fact so modifiable that it has even been turned into SMG’s, such as the famous Bison SMG , even the AS-VAL and the SVDS, all pretty well known rifles, drew some level of inspiration from the AK-47. Some major things that made it really suitable for export is it’s very low production cost, the simplicity of the rifle, and the cold war making the USSR ship it to fellow communist countries. There are still some unchanged AK-47’s that are still getting used to this day in countries such as Afghanistan, Vietnam, Cuba, Somalia, and many others. Even do Kalashnikov has stated that it is a weapon for defense, not offense, the gun has somewhat of a evil reputation, a lot of it is because it is found in abundance in gangs and illegal organizations, same with many other Russian weaponry, as much as that it is one of the only Rifles that current African armies wield. And Somalian pirates love using this weapon as well so it's no wonder.
At the few months near the end of his life, Kalashnikov wrote to one of the Orthodox Church officials near where he lived, he asked them "am I responsible for the deaths my invention caused even do not intended by me?" The church responded that they supported both him and his creations and that he should not feel guilty for the deaths.
If anyone has ideas of what i should write next let me know
