We need to reframe the term "vegetable oil". The presence of the world "vegetable" gives off the subliminal message that it's healthy when the opposite is true. This reminds me of Dr. Pepper and Diet Dr. Pepper.

As someone with IBS, discarding most of the vegetable and seed oils from the things I cooked and ate with has really helped me manage my chronic gut and joint pains more.

I'm curious: what does "degrade" in this context mean? What are the exact health problems this brings with it? Rewatch this video and have a close listen: nothing was actually said. I'm not claiming that what the video claims isn't true, I'm just claiming that this video does not provide sufficient evidence to back up it's own claim.

Avocado oil is my favorite! It's very similar in composition to olive oil but has a much more neutral flavor and a higher smoke point.

My parents made the switch 30 years ago. Videos like this make me feel very grateful for the way I was raised and taught to eat. To a certain extent, I knew why we didn't eat stuff like refined flour and refined sugar, but I never thought to question why we didn't eat canola oil, for example.

It makes sense that animal fats would be healthier than vegetable oils, if we think about it logically. Animals naturally produce enough usable fat for cooking as opposed to vegetables which require an amount no human would normally eat to be pressed into oil. It reminds me of how people think juice is healthy even though companies will tell you in their ads that this is 17 oranges worth of juice. Who in their right mind would consume 17 oranges in one sitting?

Remember, vegetable oil doesn't just come in a bottle. (Similarly, sodium doesn't just come in a salt shaker.) Many junk foods have vegetable oils in them. When you buy food, be sure to check the ingredients. If you see canola, soybean, sunflower, cottonseed, safflower, corn, or any other vegetable oil, put it back on the shelf. Food products that have vegetable oils in them include cookies, crackers, potato chips, tortilla chips, and cake.
