You may want to put some mesh over your gutter. Leaves, bugs, and other debris will get into your barrel and clog your pump or decay and make your water stagnant. Otherwise, looks good! ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

Pretty ingenious. Donโ€™t forget about some kind of filter before it goes through that pump. All kinds of debris is coming off that roof. You can see it in the rain barrel.

Now just add a small solar panel/charge controller and battery to run it independently - harbor freight has a small 1-200 watt system that just needs the battery for < $200 the last I checked

PSA: Chickens aren't humans. Animals don't have the same needs as humans. It's perfectly safe for chickens to drink non filtered water. Free range chickens drink out of the nastiest puddles they can find and they are perfectly healthy. In fact, the microbiome in their guts are probably stronger because of it. Calm down about the lack of a filter. I would suggest a screen though, just so the system doesn't get clogged.

You need a filter for Mother Nature, just a heads up

OK I don't know how I got on this video from watching Korean food recipes lol but OMG this is INGENIOUS!! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ I wish I had chickens or knew someone who did so I could suggest this to them lmao. Maybe add some wide mesh/chicken wire-type thing to catch large chunks of debris like leaves and twigs to stop it clogging up the pipes and pu

If you using rain water for chickens just make sure your water stays fresh. Month old water would be full of microorganisms

Holy simple, been trying to figure out a winter water system with a 50 gallon trash can. You just solved my issue, use continuous flow. Chickens covered, now I need to do geese

- Smart idea but you need maybe mesh or cheese cloth on the gutters so that leaves && debri doesn't get into the water. ๐Ÿ˜Š

Now add a Vitamix to the far end of the coop with a scale that grabs them when they are big enough and bam... automatic nuggies.

Do you not have to be worried about pathogens in the collected water?

Idk why but this made me exited in the same way that like optimizing a farm in a video game does. Starting my first garden this year.. canโ€™t have chickens, but Iโ€™m excited to tinker with self watering etc

You're not worried the heater in the water will help culture excessive bacteria?
