I had an eye infection that caused an ulcer, lucky for me I saw it (it was a white patch that luckily was over my iris, so rather visible), went to the doctor, got prescribed some broad spectrum antibiotics that covered for the 'worst bug' just in case while we waited for the results of the lab tests. Turns out it was the worst bug, it can blind you in a day I was told. I lost some of my sight that not even glasses or contacts can fix, but thankfully that was all I got, after a month of consistent, constant treatment. If I had stayed home and done saline rinses, I'd be blind.
Go to the doctor. We have medicine these days. And wash your brushes and discard makeup that has been in contact with your eye and can't be sanitized.

He's correct. People have been doing this for thousands of years to clear up eye infections. What do you think we did before Dr's were easy to get to? Just 200 years ago you couldn't just go to an eye dr. It was a major ordeal for most people to seek a dr., AND for the most part, when they did find way to a dr back then, this was the remedy the dr would more than likely suggest.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DO NOT DO THIS! As an optometrist, I can tell you that you should never put tap water (boiled or otherwise) in your eye because it is not sterile. Use eye drops meant for the eye when necessary and see your eye care provider if you have an eye infection.
