The one argument I’ll make is that it has application for correcting improper bracing. Especially with a kettlebell, if you have a weak core or have improper bracing technique, you’ll feel this movement in your core before your legs if you’re doing it properly (with a trainer is ideal). The position of the load forces the core to engage harder than it does for other squat variations, but due to it being a squat it still has carryover to bracing during a more traditional back or front squat. As far as leg strength or hypertrophy there are definitely far better options

Goblet squats are a great way to syart young athletes out in a squat movement pattern. Less strain on the wrists than front squat and requires less wrist mobility. It's a great exercise to test mobility and form of young athletes before movimg them onto front squats or back squats. Goblet squats definitely havw their pace in the realm of Strength and Conditioning. Not every exercise should be there just to grow a muscle group, as long as you have a programmed purpose for certain exercise it can be put into a productive workout regiment.

Pavel Tsatsouline teaches this as a warm up/health exercise. He even says "not everybody needs to squat heavy but everybody needs to squat". In this sense, this is an amazing exercise. It's safe, easy to learn, makes your hips looser and less prone to injury, and teaches you correct squat technique.

I train for performance but I find goblets (especially on slanted or rounded surfaces) indispensable for a truly complete core/stabilizers workout, a fully devolped core(abs+erectors+intercostal+spinal) makes you incredibly good at outputting general athletic strength performance (wrestling, BJJ, rugby etc...)

Goblet squats are great for very beginner lifters. Learning the squat movement, working on body positioning with lifter wieghts. Plus, holding a 45lbs kettle/dumbell just feels better than putting a bare 45lbs bar on your back or shoulders. (Plus) some people start their strength journey not able to even lift the bar, and that ok, because there's the goblet squat.
