Married five years ago. Spent just over $3000. Kept it simple. Had 60 people at the little chapel. $800 for the location for 5.5 hours, $900 for my photographer, $600 for my hired music performers for the entertainment during the cupcake reception, $200 for the cakes and cupcakes, $250 for the officiant, and various other costs. The low cost was thanks to a great venue that's known for being budget-friendly and the photographer and musicians were close friends that did me a solid. It was perfect for us and everyone had a great time!

We had a decent wedding but utilized free venue locations for the ceremony, did a lunch reception rather than dinner which was the same food at half the cost. We were all in for $8k (granted that was over a decade ago) and as much as we liked it, ended up rather wish we just went to Vegas for the weekend and had it done there.
My suggestion is get married in privet, minimal people, then host a big party to celebrate.

Our wedding was over the average, but it was worth it to us. Initially I wanted a small wedding but husband wanted a big celebration. His reasoning was that we already bought a place years ago and we could extend our engagement period to be able to afford our wedding debt free. Be realistic with your budget, manage your expectations, and prioritize what's important. Happy wedding planning for those tying the knot!

We got married with a small group (40-50) in a small room in a restaurant, saved on a lot of over the top costs (no video, flowers, etc). But had a ton of fun with the most important people. Total cost under $5K. Spent more on the honeymoon (2 weeks in Europe) and saving for the house. You do you, but we had our priorities.

Our wedding was $2K. No engagement ring and my dress was off the rack purple silk shift from a fancy department store. We had 16 guests and the venue was the old-fashioned courthouse in the city where we became college sweethearts. We had a light dinner in a private room at our favorite hotel. Violinist from undergraduate music program, inexpensive photographer building his business, two-tier cake, simple hydrangea arrangements. Almost $1K of the total cost (ie 50%) was a bespoke suit for my husband who was starting a new job in another country where he would need to dress well! We are still married 14 years later (and 25 after starting our relationship). Have three kids, two properties, paid our first place off in 2.5 yrs. Kids are set for four yr undergrad degrees at in-state public universities. Retirement savings in the bag! We drive one nice car and a handful of electric bikes. And we live off one income bc we have kids with disabilities who need a full time parent at home. We are happy and healthy(ish) and our wedding was meaningful.

My daughter is 7 years older than my twin sons and she eloped. She met her husband in college that they were together for 10 years before they got married. They both are very driven people. They both got college scholarships and they both were RA's in their Junior and Senior year so they could get free room and board.... Very frugal so this was in keeping with their financial goals.
When they go out with other couples they say all people complain about are their student loans and how much their weddings cost. They said they didn't want to be those people😂

Married in 2016 for around $7k. We got married outdoors with just a few friends and immediate family - we splurged on the food and cake but our venue was a restaurant - utilized their outdoor space and they had a $2k minimum on food and drink and we had 65ish people at the reception so that was easily covered. I made my own invites, menus and save the dates and hired someone for the cake and flowers and the restaurant supplied the food and we chose a few options for entrees and starters that people could choose from and I created a menu for the place settings. My wedding dress cost $100. His suit was more!

This is why I’m in favour of eloping.
