It's sad but true. As much as we like to parade around as silly funny animal people, we do need to acknowledge that there are those who would use such a setting to mask some truly abhorrent behaviors.

I think this happens because some people would rather focus on the good instead of the bad either as a defense mechanism or just a straight up excuse to deny any potential responsibility. Excusing shitty behavior for a cute suit gives me the same vibes as "I don't see it, so it's not happening". Like a lot of the white, cis-het men denying the negative effects of patriarchy and societal -isms. The saddest part is that the people who take negative consequences seriously will always have their sphere of influence for positive change minimized by those who brush those things off/make memes of it/stay desensitized and view it as entertainment rather than a result of the human condition. It's important to have fun and escape from stress and responsibilities sometimes, but some people have gotten too comfortable running away or exploiting it and the world is worse for it.
I appreciate that you talk about topics like this, Beta. Both you AND your fursonas/fursuits are good influences. 😌

I don’t think this is exclusive to the furry fandom. Good looking people can just get away with more thanks to their outward appearance alone. More of a human problem IMO. Though I can see how the effect can be amplified in the furry fandom.
