If I remember correctly, since the new exoskeleton is soft at first (you can see this in this spider's legs especially) the spider can use internal pressure to make the new soft exoskeleton "grow" a bit before it hardens. So neat!

As a tarantula keeper, I have a lot of people that don't know about this and think I have a shadow box filled with a bunch of dead spiders they're not dead they're just molts, crabs, do this too.

I knew they were obviously softer after a molt, and Iâve seen a hermit crab recently after a molt, but somehow seeing a spiderâs legs be so bendy broke my brain for a sec.

I have a new fear and it's being a spider and getting stuck inside my shedding exoskeleton.

If it's the humidity is wrong sometimes the shed can get stuck and the spider will die because there exoskeleton hardens onto the old one.

This is how spiders grow back lost legs. A missing leg will reappear on the next moult but usually smaller, but will get bigger and stronger with each moult until back to normal size.
