For any one that wants to know. This will only work if the can is nice and cold. As the sharpie causes friction, the friction causes heat. When the cold on the inside of the can and the heat on the outside of the can clash, it causes the aluminium to warp which goes for the weakest point.

Oh brother. I've done this one before. Just press the butt of the pen slowly but firmly against the opening, near the edge of the pre-cut-circle (just the way the tab-lever presses on it when used) and it will eventually pop down and open. No need to pull the tab up. No need to 'stab' anything.
