If you just really enjoy circuit style ab routines then go for it. But in terms of practical results they’re generally a poor use of time and effort. You’re essentially doing a mix between a brief cardio session that doesn’t burn very many calories... and a muscle building workout that doesn’t stimulate hypertrophy nearly as effectively as other alternatives. Having a “six pack” is primarily just an issue of maintaining low enough body fat levels, and that’s achieved through a calorie deficit which is mainly driven through your diet. You can’t “spot reduce” fat by performing abdominal exercises. From an aesthetics standpoint, the only purpose for direct ab training is to build the actual abdominal muscles to get them popping out a bit more noticeably. But you don’t train your chest by pumping out 5 different light weight/high rep exercises back-to-back for 12 minutes, so why would you train your abs that way? It makes no sense. Just train your abs in the same basic way as you’d train any other muscle group. Select exercises where you can get within a few reps of failure (rope crunches are my personal favorite), take a proper rest period between sets, and progressively overload over time. “Ab workouts” are great for social media clicks because they can be done from anywhere and everyone wants to “lose belly fat” and “get a six pack”... But if most people really understood how little these workouts are actually doing for them then they probably wouldn’t bother. 💪 FOLLOW THESE 2 STEPS TO MAXIMIZE YOUR RESULTS: 1️⃣ Get your FREE training and nutrition plan from me by pressing the yellow profile icon above then clicking the link in bio. 2️⃣ Check out my no B.S supplement line over at realscienceathletics.com/ (link also in bio) and use code YT10 to save 10% on your first order. ✅ Follow on IG for more daily tips: @sean_nalewanyj P.S. His point: abs don’t need 10 different exercises at 100 reps a piece to train. 99% You can’t see your abs because you’re overweight, not because your abs a small.

People in these comments are missing the point: Sean specifically gives advice for aesthetic training. Yes, some people train for endurance, others for strength, but Sean studies and gives advice SPECIFICALLY for muscle hypertrophy and bulking. The goal of Sean's advice is to LOOK as muscular as you can. So, of course, other forms of training are incredibly valuable for different goals, different types of athletes train for different types of performance. But Sean teaches you how to train for aesthetic goals in particular. The reason for videos like this isn't to put down this type of training for other purposes, it's to put down coaches that lie to you about what these exercises will do for you aesthetically. While useful when it comes to health and endurance, these kinds of workouts often come with (GET SIX PACK ABS) titles when, in reality, they will do absolutely nothing for you in that particular regard.

That's exactly how I got a 6 pack at 17 years old because I had no ab muscles. After I trained them for 2 weeks they were extremely visible

The 8 minute abs video definitely made my abs pop more in my opinion it made them more defined.

All I need is 1. Leg raises 2. weighted decline situps 3. weighted russian twists 4. weighted back extensions I like to use a kettlebell for the decline situps and russian twists, a lot easier to grip and progressively overload since they’ll go up in 5 pound increments instead of using plates jumping from 25 to 35.

Doing proper ab exercises like these with weights and progressive overload will still get the job done

I mean, the exercises aren't useless at all, they definitely increase your core strength, but abs come from fat loss.

I’m general, I want to train my core more because I’ve noticed how much better my whole physique looks when I flex my abs. I don’t want visible abs, but I want a tight abdomen by actually training the muscles. A lot of people forget that your abs (if not properly trained through compounds) do need to be targeted if you want to balance out your aesthetics and strength

I have approximately 21 photos on my gallrey that say otherwise. Im talking about my 21 day progression on my ab workout. You can clearly see the difference. Granted i had low body fat but still. Ab workout do help alot to make ur abs show.

I dont even train my abs directly but I still have a visible 6 pack, It all depends on your bodyfat percentage, Ive been doing only calisthenics plus weight for 5 years now

I'm happy that you have posted this. I was tired of this workout that people post thinking it will give them six packs.

Ab workouts help strengthen your core that helps overall. But abs have to do with body fat period. Core workouts like this are still effective but not in showing abs like what normally people think in ways of getting your abs to show.
