"Med school takes away all your free time". From personal experience, I don’t think this stigma is true.

A medical degree is just like any other degree at university. There are periods of high-intensity studying and others that are more relaxed. If you organise your time appropriately, you’ll still have plenty of free time to pursue other interests, a social life, extracurriculars, relationships and more. So yes, you can still have a life outside of med school!

Keep in mind that he is talking from the perspective of a UK student planning to practice in the UK. I would agree with his sentiment in that context, but things are a bit more complicated in other situations relating to medical school (for example, if you are trying to apply to the US as a foreign medical graduate afterwards).

At university of Auckland we have three exams per year as an entire med cohort ?years 1-6) but for 2nd-3rd year we have full module exams every 3 weeks (often more than 1) so… not the same everywhere

Does anyone else think that Khama Medic is lying? Or maybe I mean, just wrong? Listen, sure HE has time to do enjoyable things, but only because he compartmentalizes his activities in a way that no average person does, or even can. My guess is that he probably thinks that those other degrees are no harder because he sees his friends studying about the same amount of time as he does. What he doesn’t realize is that HE could do those class assignments in 1/2 to 1/3 the time! I’m glad he’s not average. We need that kind of person to attend to our bedside when we’re sick. I just think it’s strange that he doesn’t know that he’s special.

As long as you stick to a strict schedule, you still have some free time. Sure not hours and hours... but you still have free time.
