Millions of years of evolution, of fishes developing lungs and limbs, evolving into amphibians, reptiles, birds, and mammals, only for one species to say “nah, turn back I wanna be fishe!”

Fossil record is extensive for whale evolution. This is very well supported.

I wonder what the distant future scientists would think of the platypus fossils when this world is covered over and forgotten...

People will say "so they left the water only to go back in to the water?" To dismiss evolution, but they dont realise that after millions of years the land changes, food supply might change, and so it makes sense for animals to adapt to new ways of life over time.

What if it didn’t evolve into a whale but was just an animal that could live both on land and under water?

Or it’s a hodge Podge of all the bones you could piece together from any dig.

We have mammals with poison and lay eggs, who is to say it wasn't designed like this.

Having a bill doesnt make a platypus a duck. Having an ear bone doesnt make this ancient animal a whale.

Oddly enough what you just described sounded a lot like an alligator or a crocodile. If you were to get rid of the fur and give it scales instead. I bet it looks like a crocodile. Can crocodiles hear underwater? 🤔
