I've used one of these, they're super convenient except for the part where you have to retrieve the spear you launched a whole mile

At Least it is easier to make than a bow if needed so it isn't entirely worthless.

The locals in certain Australian communities still practise long throws, it's kinda fun to watch kids try to be accurate with it.

In Australia, because the Bow ans Arrow was never invented (as far as i know anyway) it never went out of fashion. Some of the things the Aboriginals invented to throw at game is insane.

I watched a guy hit a half meter (1.5ft) wide oak tree with a spear using one of these from about 100 meters (330ft). I was quite impressed.

I used one of these to hit a (fake) buffalo target on my kid's field trip to a nature center. It wasn't far away but I was the only parent to score a direct hit. My kid had bragging rights for a week.

I’ve heard it pronounced differently by native people than Simon says. They say “attel attel”, instead of Simon’s “at lattel “. Interesting variation.

No one needs to throw a spear that far, these should be banned.
