A Star Within a Star #Shorts

What happens when a dead star is consumed by a live one? The result is a Thorne-Żytkow Object. First proposed in the 1970s, these are red giant stars in binary systems, which have absorbed their neutron star companion. When this happens, the giant star will usually remain intact for at least a few hundred years, so what happens during that time?

Is it possible to get you to do a long format video on this? I'm extremely interested and I'm sure many others are too. Cheers mate.

This may be useful research for my own theory that the cores of stars actually ARE small dense rapidly spinning black holes, and neutron stars are the next lowest energy state

They don’t know what they are talking about. This is why they are proposals and theories

It can remain stable for a few hundred years before being destroyed, which on the cosmic timescale is near instant annihilation.

“Progenitor” is the incorrect word here. The TZO would be the progenitor to the binary system, not the other way around, unless you mean that this system will become a TZO, but context suggests otherwise. Fascinating short, though!

Progenitor? Hardly, it's the child of not the ancestor of the original object

It's like a Quasi Star except a lot smaller and won't last as long. I'd imagine there would be gigantic torus like structures within the star as the neutron star within funnels plasma along its magnetic field lines

What happens if the giant star swallows a black hole instead of said white dwarf? And, what happens when a hypothetical primordial black hole is swallowed?
