Kaimanawa horses. I've had many magical and majestic encounters with Kaimanawa wild horses. My favourite is a still air powder snow covered valley driving along straight road, the stallion out of nowhere gallops alongside our vehicle and crosses in front right to left disappearing into a reentrant. Horse dude was definitely asserting dominance. Also in other cases I've seen a herd stallion turned, faced and stood his ground against a low flying helicopter to protect the herd. Wasn't required but what a sight.

Visited Edinburgh zoo for my birthday last week and of all my friends I was the only one to want to see their three Taki horses… they have no idea what they were missing honestly. They are mesmerising even just as they’re chilling, eating grass and laying down. It’s like watching a living relic of prehistoric times.
As an artist I got a little emotional because it made me think of the cave paintings ancient people would have made of them. I wonder if they had the chance to get as close as me 🥲

And in Australia, they are an invasive species.
In a continent that Never evolved for hooved anything, nor of those weights for thousands of years, All hoovel imports are incredibly damaging to Australian terrain, and ecosystems.
The feral horse, pig, & camel sure.
But every animal farmer has to manage the erosion from their herds.
Except many dont; its a leading cause of erosion, silting, farmland deterioration here.
A hundred times over for the feral animals on public land.

There's a lot of these Taki horses in captivity here in Texas in fact even many Safari sanctuaries have them. The Taki Horse can trace its roots back to the ancient horses of North America before the end of the last major ice age.
