My entire wedding barely cost more than $1,200... if you're goal is to make other people jealous, good luck, if it's to get married, congratulations! You shouldn't start your lives together in debt for a party people aren't going to remember in the morning. You can have an amazing time & not break the bank.

The reason venues charge a cake cutting fee their reasoning anyway is because when you bring in your own cake from another bakery, and still use one of their staff to cut it, their dishes to serve it, they have to pay that person, clean up afterwards, wash those dishes, and often box up the leftover cake for you. The average cost of cake cutting is $1.50-$3.00 a guest, but some higher end venues will charge even more. This is why some weddings they serve cupcakes, etc.

Remember: the wedding is the day, the marriage is for life. Work more on the latter. and don't pay 1200 bucks for cake cutting. put it into the dress, the honeymoon or a savings account. Stuff is going to break immediately. Like the wedding night, and the car takes a dump. the hot water tank breaks. You want that buffer.

True story. When I got married in 19 76 I asked my husband's cousin if she would cut the cake at our wedding. This was a common practice at that time and I wanted to include his family in the celebration. I did not know and she obviously did not know that there was actual a correct way to cut a wedding cake correctly. She butchered the cake. Instead of cutting small little slices for the guest she hacked it so that the slices of cake were sometimes as long as four to five inches long and two to three inches wide. One of my relatives upon seeing what was going on went over and kindly and gently offered to cut the cake for her which she refused. So my relative actually forcefully took the knife away from her and told her to get away. If I were ever to get married again in a lavish wedding ceremony I will cut the cake myself.

I'm all for paying a fair wage for a job but $1200 to slice is shameful and if a person pays that for a handful of hours, I guess you get what you deserve. It's cake... It's not like you are saving a life, making sure the electricity and plumbing are put in correctly. Even well paid electricians don't charge this much for a short job easy job. Yes, I know how to slice cake. I've been baking and cooking since I was 5 and often have cooked and baked for large groups.

What?!?! I get roped into cutting cake at ALL of the family weddings. It seems I should start asking for pay.
