Italians also have a similar tradition where they give money, and there’s sometimes a logbook depending on where you/your family is from that when after the wedding all the cash is counted and marked as to what each person gave so that you can give the same amount

In india its called "Shagun" . Though the amounts need not be exorbitantly high, but need to be like 101, 501, 1001 (depending on how much you can afford)

Here in India peoppe comes for free and in case of gifts we are similar but two things are different you have to add 1 rupee to your amount and amount of your gift is varies according to your economical conditions

No wonder younger people don't bother to build families or even think about marriage

In India we also practice this same, invelop with cash + one coin as our respect to the couple.

FYI: 100,000 is an even number so I guess the rudeness rules fly out the door when it’s this large of a sum. I’m also betting no gifts are returned because they thought they were rude.

This exists in Indian culture too it's called a 'Kanyadaan', now the amount isn't as big but the rest is the same, it's given in special envelopes and also in odd numbers like 101,501,1001.
