Let's be real. "Cutting expenses" and "levers" is code for layoffs. People aren't under-estimating these "smart" executives. They're the ones putting their companies into this position in the first place (ie: not growing revenue), while magically generating higher bonuses for themselves off the misery of the employees they impacted. In such cases, higher profit margins should be cheered less, and the "smart" executives should be held to account more.
