I cant get it. I can crochet. Not fast or properly but I CAN. I hold yarn and hook in one hand and project in the other. To make each stitch i drop the hook and physically wrap.
I made a newborn hat with ribbing at the bottom today and start to finish including sewing was 4 1/2 hours. It aint fast and probably would have gone faster if i hadnt kept getting distracted BUT i did it.

I typically hook the yarn by swinging the hook around the back and pulling it through. I taught myself how to crochet without tutorials and I’m still a beginner but I find the difference in methods interesting and most of the time I learn from them. In order to space correctly I found that if you hold the needle perpendicular to the last chain and have the space of the needles width above your last chain it looks really nice and clean.
