I do this with a particular type of shallot that you can't find in stores, and to buy sets online for boogie varieties is cost prohibitive. They are nearly perennial, and my go-to for any green or bulb onion needs! โค

I grew some fantastic Rossa Di Milano onions this year, I'm looking forward to collecting the seeds from them next year, and also planting some purchased seeds to keep an alternating cycle going ๐Ÿ‘

Last year I accidentally left a couple onions in my garden over winter and they came back up in the spring and gave a 2โ€™ tall beautiful plant with one large flower at the top, I put a mesh bag over the bloom to harvest the seeds. Free seeds forever!

Maybe you can answer my question. Letโ€™s say for example I buy a tomato seed and plant it. I go through the process and collect my yields. Then I use the seeds Iโ€™ve harvested to then reuse for next year. My question is after time goes on and I reuse the same seeds is there any impact on the plant qualities such as yield amount/quality/etc? Thank you :)

Given that seeds as well as sets are dirt cheap, at least where i live, this would only be smart to do if you couldn't get a particular type anymore. I just planted winter onions that i expect to give a big onoo harvest this coming june

How do they really work in tropical areas if they're biennial?

And for the cheapskates among us: you can cut the bottom off your bulb onions as you eat them and plant those. They will regrow greens and seed out at the end, just like these mini bulbs hes planting

So, this year I replanted some of my sprouted onions from last year , yellow Spanish and ruby red , and they just acted like multiplier onions and split into 3-6 small bulbs ๐Ÿ˜‚ Only one made a seed head ,and that is the one that got accidentally damaged . Again , I keep buying MiGardener seeds , but these guys stayed good till June this year and only then started sprouting, so I just wanted to try

Can you plant different varieties of onions close to each other, or will they cross pollinate and not produce true seed?
