In my opinion this is definitely a big problem. So many of the divers I see diving are crashing into the sea floor or kicking up clouds of sediment with every kick. It’s no fault of theirs (unless they refuse to try to learn) because they just aren’t taught it.

100% true. My OW instructor certified students who couldn't clear their mask, one person dropped their weights and rocketed to the surface (without any emergency), still got the card.

My OW Pool Session was May 2023. The OW Checkout Dives Aug 2023 thanks to my Shops Schedule.

And then they put themselves and others in danger. I remember a dive with an AOWD certified to dive 40m (with air for sure...) he was walking with hands at the bottom... Agencies must stop delivering self-killing certifications !

The reality is, many people that take OWD, should never take the certification, cause they don't have the inclination/atention/care/responsability to be a diver and a competent buddy, they take that certification... because it's cool to have that and tell others they are certified divers, on the other day one guy was pissed off because he failed his OWD with basic exercises and wanted to be a OWD instead of a scuba diver "level 1" , by paying it does not give you the entitlement of having that certification. I think that SSI and PADI, specially, are a bit to blame here, not all people are able to dive, and these two corporations are preassuring instructors to do so, i'm sorry, things aren't like that, so bad OWD's are being certified and bad things can happen to these people.

Exactly. When the dive certificates are expensive, the divers felt they are entitled for the certificates no matter how bad or good they are, the instructors and dive shops felt the pressure of must give them a "card" after the course. else might get complaint or bad reviews. So regardless of the skills and knowledge. As long as they do not endanger themselves, all will get a card after the course
